Registration has officially opened for the Mission of Mercy Pittsburgh event on August 5-6, 2022. Within seven days, a total of 288 volunteers signed up. Of that number, 10 specifically signed up for Vision and Hearing, while 156 signed up as general volunteers.
A larger turnout is expected in August due to the addition of hearing care. Vision care was not advertised prior to the last clinic. This time, both vision and hearing care will be advertised along with dental care.
There will be 10 lanes for adult eye care and two lanes for pediatric eye care using the Vision to Learn vans. Audiology will have three rooms, which will be broken into four exam areas, making 12 total exam areas. Otology will have about two chairs set up.
The Departments of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology and the Eye & Ear Foundation Board actively participate in this event. Registration typically stays open until 48 hours prior. For last minute volunteers, there usually is an option to sign up on the day of the event.
