Volunteer registration is officially open for Mission of Mercy Pittsburgh 2022. The two-day clinic will be held on August 5-6 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
“This is the second year the Eye & Ear Foundation has partnered with Mission of Mercy to provide care to the community,” said Lawton Snyder, Chief Executive Officer of EEF. “Last year we supported a pilot program to provide vision care. As a result, the Department of Ophthalmology saw over 300 people and provided over 300 pairs of glasses, thanks to the Essilor Foundation. This year, EEF will support both Ophthalmology and Audiology to provide care in the community. We are actively raising support and recruiting volunteers so we can service the needs for uninsured and underinsured individuals for their vision and hearing care needs.”
There are three categories of registration: Clinical & Dental, General, and Eye Exam & Hearing Care. Being a general volunteer does not require special skills. Tasks involve checking in patients and volunteers, acting as patient ambassadors, conducting exit interviews, collecting data, translating, and helping with set up (August 4), or breakdown.
Registration typically stays open until 48 hours prior. For last minute volunteers, there usually is an option to sign up on the day of the event.
