An Amazing Welcome to the Vision and Rehabilitation Institute

Carole and Dan Kamin

Dan and Carole Kamin believe strongly in welcoming guests to Pittsburgh, whether in their home or a public space.

Nowhere is that more evident than in their latest gift: $1.5 million to support the new Vision and Rehabilitation Institute at the UPMC Mercy Pavilion. In line with their welcoming personalities, patients will enter the state-of-the-art building via the Dan G. and Carole L. Kamin Atrium and Lobby.

“Carole and I are in support of the groundbreaking work being orchestrated by Dr. José Alain-Sahel, who is assembling a topflight team of researchers,” Dan Kamin said. “This work will have a profound effect locally, nationally, and internationally on innovative ocular treatments.”

The couple is devoted to their family and philanthropy. Carole Kamin – who joined the EEF Board in 2018 – is President of the Ladies Hospital Aid Society and has long been involved with the Carnegie Museum of Natural History as a board member and buyer/manager for the gift shop. Her husband is in commercial real estate and has properties in approximately 47 states.

“The Eye & Ear Foundation is incredibly honored by Carole and Dan’s support of the new Vision and Rehabilitation Institute and of Dr. Sahel’s groundbreaking research. This gift speaks to their goals of welcoming everyone to Pittsburgh while also advancing Dr. Sahel’s ‘vision’ to build one of the top ophthalmology departments in the world,” said Heather Chronis Danek, EEF Director of Development.
