Donation Nets Naming Rights

Gail Bleach, PhD, has long had a dream to see progress in blindness prevention and vision restoration. The cause is personal as her brother is blind due to retinopathy of prematurity. She created the Gail Bleach Vision Research Foundation as a vehicle for her friends, family, and the public to join her in supporting vision research.

Dr. Bleach’s foundation has committed to a transformational gift to the Eye & Ear Foundation, earning the rights to name a lab in the new Vision and Rehabilitation Institute at UPMC Mercy Pavilion. It will be called the Dr. Gail A. Bleach Lab for Ophthalmology Research.

“We are so honored Dr. Bleach has decided to dedicate this major gift from her foundation to support research in ophthalmology,” said Lawton Snyder, EEF CEO.  “In getting to know her these past few years, I realize how dedicated she is to this mission.”

Dr. Bleach – a clinical psychologist in Silver Spring, Maryland, who is a mediator as well as a parent and divorce coach – is also an EEF Ambassador. At the time, she told EEF, “If in any small way I can help move this research along, it gives purpose and meaning to my life.”
