After back-to-back virtual Siciliano Lectures the past two years, the Eye & Ear Foundation hosted one in person on October 11.
“The whole vibe was one of a family reunion (without the fighting) as there was a lot of joy in getting back together at the U Club after all of this time apart due to COVID,” said Heather Chronis Danek, Senior Director of Development for Individual Giving and Corporate Partnerships.
Many guests, including Department of Otolaryngology faculty and all three chairs, EEF Board members, and Ambassadors gathered to hear David M. Cognetti, MD, FACS, speak on New and Old Treatments for Oral Cavity Cancer. Dr. Cognetti is the Herbert Kean, MD Professor and Chair, Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at Sidney Kimmel Medical College/Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Thomas Jefferson University. He is also President of the Pennsylvania Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.
“My experience in Pittsburgh taught me how to be a doctor,” Dr. Cognetti – a University of Pittsburgh alum — said. “It was the best training that I could have ever had.”
Established in 2005 by Huberta Siciliano, the Siciliano lectureship honors Huberta Siciliano’s late husband and recognizes the need to advance head and neck cancer research.
