A new position has been created to support the digital communication needs of the Departments of Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, and the Eye & Ear Foundation. Kelsey Muchnok joins EEF’s communication team on August 5th as a content strategist, aiding in communication and marketing needs, and improving photography and videography offerings.

Kelsey’s background has always been centered around communications. In 2011, she studied at Chatham University for her Bachelor’s in Media Arts with a focus in Psychology, Film and Digital Technology. In 2019, while working as a Multimedia Designer for Opticom Consulting and a Faculty Support Coordinator for the University of Pittsburgh, she attended Point Park University part-time for a Master’s degree in Media Communication.

After graduating with her Master’s, Kelsey started working as the Digital Communications Coordinator at the Center for Philosophy of Science at the University of Pittsburgh and continued her position as the Multimedia Designer for Opticom Consulting.

While working on her education, Kelsey worked on several freelance projects. She filmed and produced three documentaries, Aplastic Anemia: Your Fight is My Fight, Anonymous, and POWER: A road to Recovery.

“Each subject I film becomes personal to me,” the artist’s statement on Kelsey’s website reads. “Nonprofits are groups of individuals who have dedicated themselves to change someone’s life for the better. Whenever I help bring awareness to an issue that a nonprofit is dedicated to change, I feel as if I am helping unload some burden off someone’s shoulders. Change doesn’t happen in a day, and it takes more than one person to achieve it.”

In her spare time, Kelsey is learning digital drawing for animation and the Python programing language. She has started two herb gardens at her house as well as a composter. She hopes to continue planting and has started on a wildflower section for bees and hummingbirds. “A fun fact about me is that I am building a home sound/photography studio in a spare room,” she shared.

Kelsey is looking forward to applying and strengthening her skills as a digital communicator in her new role. “The world of communications constantly grows and evolves new techniques for people to connect, and social media is no exception,” she said. “I am excited to apply my background in communications, film, and photography to aid EEF and the Departments, and help support the mission.”
