As of July 1, Jessica Maxwell, MD, MPH, FACS is the Residency Program Director for the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, replacing Noel Jabbour, MD, MS, FACS. While the role is still in a transition phase, Dr. Maxwell has many goals for the program.
One of the most unique aspects of the program that will be rolled out this year is the Residency Tracks. These include five tracks for the residents to select, giving them a strong foundation and body of work in one unique area of otolaryngology and academic medicine. The tracks include Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Global & Community Health, Patient Safety and Quality, Educational Leadership, and Translational Science. Mentors for each track will guide residents through their five years to become experts in an area outside of traditional otolaryngology training and succeed in their future career paths.
Another goal is to develop a comprehensive curriculum for the residents — incorporating expertise from faculty members — to improve the didactic educational program. “We have begun working on this curriculum and are excited to roll it out in the next month,” Dr. Maxwell said.
