The 2024 Muse Prize and Award Celebrates Excellence in Ophthalmology
The 2024 Albert C. Muse Prize recipient for Excellence in Research and Advancement of Care in Ophthalmology is Emily Y. Chew, MD.
Dr. Chew is the Director of the Division of Epidemiology and Clinical Applications at the National Eye Institute (NEI), National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Chief of the Clinical Trials Branch. She received her medical degree and ophthalmology training at the University of Toronto School of Medicine and completed her fellowship in Medical Retina at the Wilmer Eye Institute, the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutes, and the University of Nijmegen, Netherlands. Dr. Chew has been recognized for her scientific accomplishments and mentoring efforts by numerous organizations, including the National Institutes of Health, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, American Ophthalmological Society, Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis, Macula Society, Retina Society, American Society of Retina Specialists, and others.

The 2024 Albert C. Muse Award recipient for Excellence in Innovation and Service in Ophthalmology is Andrew W. Eller, MD.
Dr. Eller is a Professor at the University of Pittsburgh, specializing in retina and vitreous diseases. He was educated at Pennsylvania State University and obtained his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine (formerly Hahnemann Medical College). He completed his residency in ophthalmology at Wills Eye Hospital, Thomas Jefferson University and obtained fellowship training in vitreoretinal diseases with the Retina Associates, Eye Research Institute of Retina Foundation, and Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the Retina Society and the American Society of Retinal Specialists. He is the Director of the Ocular Trauma Service and a member of the Retina Service. His special interests are in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachment, ocular trauma, and AIDS-related eye diseases.
